a mural in Hamburg-Rothenburgsort
It took a whole nine years for the initial idea of a mural for Hamburg’s Rothenburgsort district to be realized. But in 2008 the mural “Identität” was finally completed.
The external facade of a high rise building was the location where the artists involved allowed their artistic identities to come up against each other. Through overlaying divergent imagery DAIM, TASEK and RKT ONE were able to create a harmonious symbol of the cultural exchange that characterizes the district. The project’s aim was to artistically render the sense of community spirit that develops in a neighborhood of this kind, while taking the identities of every individual into account.
The central element of the illustration is reminiscent of a flower’s opened blossom and conveys friendliness and cosmopolitanism. It represents an open attitude – despite the district’s insular location – and a newfound self-confidence and sense of identity. The arrows featured in the motif represent the stimuli this district has been receiving from outside and the resulting sense of inspiration.
