As born in Luneburg in 1971 he began working with the spray can in 1989. His attention to detail and the perfect execution of his work have resulted in him becoming a role model for many graffiti artists — a status he has had for over 20 years. He has worked as a freelance artist in Hamburg since 1992 and, thanks to his complex productions and the development of his special 3D-style, has also made a name for himself internationally.
In his works DAIM achieves the difficult feat of balancing technical variety with individuality of expression. His geometrical letters and characters are based on physical aspects such as light and shadow, but are rendered in a way that overcomes gravity and bends reality. Lines create forms, colors convey emotions; in a dynamic process, objects architectural in appearance begin to take shape. The quiet calm of the surfaces meets the high tension of the dynamic elements that cross, complete and divide the picture. Observers of his creations are drawn in by what they see, and given the sense of having been beamed into a new dimension.
Daim’s roots clearly lie in graffiti. But his creations have also been influenced by graphic design, painting, calligraphy, and a number of other artistic styles. He is always on the look-out for creative ways of accessing his environment and finds great satisfaction in the colorful redesign of urban landscapes. His outstanding trademark style enables him to create connections between different techniques, contents and places, and to leave his distinctive artistic signature wherever he has been at work. The high recognition value of his creations has achieved him international acclaim, and serves to inspire and influence up-and-coming graffiti artists all over the world.
